How I celebrated the arrival of 2008 - without Aaron.

We arrived in KC around 2.15, after frantic packing this morning. I headed to Greg and Jeanne’s to try to pack up a bit and forced the children to watch Blue’s Clues and Sesame Street while trapped in the pack and play.

We headed over to N&A’s late this afternoon and settled into the Master Suite, forcing the home owners into the guest bedroom. (It was Ang’s idea.) Then the children proceeded to dump out toys, sit on things not for sitting, and climb on the table. I was so tired I hardly even noticed.

Neal planned dinner, so he headed to the grocery store when he got home from work and Ang and I set about thawing the steaks he’d just taken out of the freezer and left on the counter as though they would be room temperature by the time he returned.

Silly boys.

He did manage to get dinner on the table - with Ang’s help - and it was fantastic. But really, so what if he needed help…it’s not about cooking anyway…it’s about getting the party started.

Then we were blessed with Greg’s presence.

And shortly thereafter, Aaron went to bed. At 10.30. (It was a little weird when midnight rolled around and Neal and A didn’t call each other. They honestly do it even when they’re in the same room.)

Anyway, the rest of us watched the least technically savvy newscaster on TV (OMG the headphones and mic!)

ask the stupidest questions to dumb people.

And then we listened to poor Dick Clark do the countdown and talk to Ryan Seacrest post Eve. I have a really hard time watching people who are going to, or might, get embarrassed, and this was excruciating.

Ang went to bed shortly after midnight, but I stayed up to get my day planned tomorrow…and to watch Univision’s New Year’s celebration with Neal. I found it to be MUCH more interesting that Times Square. Neal didn’t find it hard on the eyes either.

I would have liked to have made it until midnight, but Neal is as much to blame for my sleep deprivation leading up to NYE as am I. Staying up Saturday night to spend time with him one on one and see a good band - worth it. Staying up Sunday night to see Colby and a fantastic band - worth it. Staying up Monday night to watch Dick Clark slur out of the left corner of his mouth - not so much.
