Life (In London), Medicated

I’m in a “do something” kind of mood.

Kept L home from school today because he has a weird rash. Could be due to the virus he had earlier in the week…could be any number of other things. We had fun, though. We worked on our xmas cards. He’s really into it.

Speaking of xmas, I researched a few ideas for everyone. Now I just have to find time to buy everything. (Maybe I’ll sic my personal shopper on it.)

E started climbing.

She’s quite proud of herself, if you didn’t notice.

The laundry delivery guy redeemed himself.  He brought me all of our clean laundry today…even though yesterday he told me it would be impossible.  He’s my bitch.
A got home late because it was raining like mad. He was SOAKED. We ate dinner and L and A got ready for bed. A was asleep by 9. Even E went to sleep “early.” However, L was up yelling and kicking the wall. I finally let him come downstairs. He ate a HUGE meal and we baked brownies for A to take with him tomorrow to Romania tomorrow, fixed A a sack lunch for the trip, and L wrote him a note.

He went to bed at midnight.

I did not.

The house is clean, I’m decluttering, and recluttering with good stuff.

The day in review.

On Tuesday, A and I made a decision to send our laundry out to be washed and dried. I packed it all up (lights and darks only) and waited for the dude to come pick it up on Wednesday. He never came. So, I called them today and he told me he’d come around noon. He came…but he told me I can’t have it back until Monday. This pissed me off because it was his fault I can’t have it tomorrow. I told him as much and he said he’d give me a discount. It amounted to 10 pounds. I’m no longer that pissed.

Anne (pronounced Ah-nee) made her second visit. She was eager to please. I’m mostly pleased. It just sucks for her that my attention to detail is higher than hers. I do really like her though. She’s so peppy and young. She enjoys the kids and I enjoy hearing about her life in Bulgaria…though our communication is mostly in signs.

Liam was a freak show this morning and I kept him home from school as punishment.  (How long will this tactic work?) I didn’t want the teachers to have to deal with him.

Finally finished unpacking the suitcases and got everything (mostly) put away. We can now walk through the hallways and in to the dressing room. (It was actually kind of nice that they lost our luggage since it delayed unpacking a bit.)

L and I started a Christmas card project for his friends at school. His play and party are in a week and a half and we need to have cards for everyone in his class, and I’m going to make cookies…maybe I’ll try my luck with sugar cookies. Not sure though. I’m still kind of afraid of the oven. It bakes completely differently than ours in the U.S. did. Anyway, I had an AMAZING time messing around with all of my crafty stuff with L. I hope I can do more of it. It makes me so happy!
Hung out with Elena again this evening. I really think that she’s going to get her time straightened out about the time we head back for xmas. Fortunately the rest of us don’t have to travel like A does in the next two weeks. He is going to Bucharest, Romania on Saturday to pick up a few frequent flier miles so he can be the pimp daddy in the fast line at the airport and get us into the Red Carpet Club, and to Omaha for a few days for work. It is interesting how we view his trips: he’s bummed that he has to do all of that flying alone; I’m bummed that I don’t get to do all of that flying alone.

Doctor! Doctor!

  • Took L to school and then went to the Dr.’s office to finish up the registration process. It was a little weird. When I got up to the waiting room, there wasn’t anyone at the desk. It was that way for probably 15 minutes or so. Then a woman came out and asked if I’d given my urine sample.Am I just supposed to know this? And if I’m supposed to know it, where was I to get the cup? Oh, it’s right there on the counter. Evidently I AM supposed to know this.

I did my duty and it was clear that I hadn’t had enough water this morning. (Dude…at 9.30 a.m., it is SERIOUSLY yellow.)

The woman, who was not the receptionist (so there was no one out there when we walked back), took me back in the lab and asked a bunch of questions, which I neglected to answer using the metric system, and told me to make a “double appointment” to speak to the doctor about my prescriptions.

Double appointment? You can do that?

  • Worked on a cleaning list for tomorrow. Thank you FlyLady.
  • Spoke to my lovely mother to wish her a happy birthday. She was a little worn out from outpatient surgery on Mon., but I’m guessing she was having a better day without the 1/4 inch (.635 cm) stone rolling around in her kidney.
  • Worked more on the cleaning list, and then got sucked into FlyLady’s routines. Me likey.
  • A and I stayed up with E until 11, at which point he went to bed. E and I were up until almost 2.Fucking Time Zones.

It doesn’t even count as a day.

  • Got home around 10.30.
  • Somehow, with three hours to spare, our luggage didn’t make it home with us. (Probably because of A’s beer making supplies. I suppose that much grain could look a little suspicious.
  • We all took a little snooze. I was mad because A made me get up.
  • Went to bed.Oh wait…Liam and A went to bed. I stayed up with E, who thought it was 8 a.m.

The Short Trip Home

  • L threw up in the night…all over his bed…and rolled around in it. He’s definitely a bit on the sick side.
  • I had to shove all of my new stuff into a bunch of suitcases…fortunately we have enough ticketed passengers that I could use three checked bags!
  • Went to lunch with the fam at Grandpa’s office and played with the train.
  • Went to the airport early so we wouldn’t have to rush. We walked around, watched 100 planes take off, saw preparation to take off from the people leaving the gate to the pilots sitting in the cockpit drinking Long Island Iced Teas, etc. We were there the perfect amount of time.Right up until our flight was delayed to the point that we were going to miss our connection in Chicago. Reason flight was delayed?

One of the flight attendants had a nosebleed. The way the EMT people rushed out to the plane you would have thought it was a heart attack.

She wanted to fly, but the Mighty Captain wouldn’t let her, so we didn’t have a crew.

  • Oh, Chicago. The kids were worn out and we had three hours to kill. We ate, watched people, and eventually made our way to our gate, blocked off a section with the stroller, and proceeded to wait.
  • Moved to the gate to which they changed our flight and got on to a very plane. No worries though: kids slept, A slept, I slept. As one of the flight attendants noted “That’s one tired family.” It went by much faster compared to the previous two flights we’ve taken between Chicago and London…probably because it’s at least an hour shorter. Why can’t the jet stream cooperate BOTH ways?
