Who are you to judge? You KNOW you’ve done it too.
I am notorious for impulse buying. Now granted, the majority of the time I’ve been thinking about what I want so I have some sort of an idea, but then one day…
I’m walking through Sears with AJ to purchase a lawn mower and weed eater we walked past the sewing machine department on the way. I feel a sudden tug and I MUST. HAVE. ONE. AJ heads over to the lawn mowers while I look and within three minutes, I’ve decided on one. It doesn’t take long for me to convince the appliance sales guy that he needs to help me over in the sewing machine department, and I’m over to the lawn mowers so quickly that AJ has no idea the transaction has taken place.
I’m convinced that I do it because I loathe shopping. I hate going from store to store to store to find the best price. And while online shopping seems like it should be the perfect solution for me, I really don’t like to do the research. And I CERTAINLY don’t want to wait for the eBay seller to mail it on a whim.
So, I tend to buy and then evaluate. Occasionally this gets me in trouble, but in a surprising number of cases, I’m happy with what I got.
Anyway, today I had three hours to get out and do what I needed to and get back to Jeanne’s to pick up L to get home in time for a nap.
I took Elena with me and did the necessities first.
I HAD to get gas in the car. I’ve never seen my gauge as low as it was. And, I had a low tire, so I had to air it up. Since I was going to pay 50 cents for one, (It’s AIR. It should totally be free. Pressurization can’t cost that much.) I decided to check all of them.
And of course because it’s -10 they all needed air.
Additionally because it was WAY below freezing, I had to follow the directions on the air thingy that said to put the air hose in my tail pipe for “one minute” before using it to air up the tires. My first thought was “what if I don’t?” Then I started thinking about the logistics and decided that whoever thought of using the tail pipe to heat it up was brilliant. I did my duty and it wasn’t until after I got back in the car and my hands were completely numb that I realized I should have put them near my exhaust before returning to my car.
Or maybe not.
Once I got warmed up enough to drive, I headed to Babies R Us to make some returns. They were just opening when I looked in my hatchback and realized that I didn’t have anything to return. I looked twice. I KNEW I had returns to make there, but evidently I hadn’t placed the bag in my car with all of the other needs-to-be-returned bags. What was I thinking?
Fortunately E wasn’t out of the car yet, so I just hopped back in and went to JC Penney Home to got an electric blanket for our king bed. We have been using one for a queen just to get by and I am sick and tired of AJ pulling the sheet, electric blanket, and comforter over to his side leaving me fuh-ree-zing over on my side. And then he bitches when I try to get my half back. What’s that all about?
JC Penney was a super quick trip since I knew exactly what I wanted, so I decided to mosey on over to Old Navy. I haven’t really bought any clothes since before Liam was born and I was SUPER skinny then so none of it fits now. And I really need jeans.
I grabbed a ton of stuff and headed into the largest dressing room they had, Elena in tow on the cart. I nursed her in the dressing room, she fell asleep in her car seat, and I tried on clothes in complete silence for two hours.
By the time I left, I had more than $600 worth of Old Navy clothing in three very full bags. I bought at least two of all of the shirts that fit, and I found quite a few. I also stocked up on some shirts for E for next winter and got her some v. cute jeans.
I’m pleased with most of the stuff I bought, but it wasn’t until I was checking out that I realized I had not one pair of jeans. They were out of everything in my size.
That shouldn’t happen to someone on a shopping spree. The store should be able to tell that I’m in the mood to buy and they should have someone driving over to another store to get my size. (Although, now that I think about it, with the price of gas being what it is, it may not be worth it. But still, I think it would be good customer service.)
We were all exhausted after the morning and we all took naps this afternoon. I only got about 30 minutes in, but every little bit helps these days.
And I was really glad I did sleep because AJ got home late this evening so I didn’t get my evening of peace.
Oh well, quid pro quo I suppose. If he’d come home early, Elena would have screamed and gotten us kicked out of Old Navy this morning.
So sure, I’m willing to give up my night in order to be fully clothed.
