Elena: Four Months

Filed under: Elena, Liam, Mommyhood — Heidi at 2:43 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2006

Elena had her four-month check-up today.

Stats: Measurement %
Height 24″ 35
Weight 13 lb, 9.5 oz. 47
Head 41.1 cm 50

She had to get shots again.

The actual shots didn’t go too badly - I sang “Twinkle Twinkle” to her and she cried, but calmed down fairly quickly afterward.

Fortunately L was at Grandma’s and didn’t get to join in the wailing when E got her immunizations.

She’s doing all of the things she should be:

smiling,

laughing,

IMG_35141.jpg

bringing her fingers - and more specifically her thumb - to her mouth,

IMG_3513.jpg

and yakking.

She also loves to chat, greatly dislikes tummy time, loves me to rub her feet, is quite fond of the sling, and is a little freaked out by people she doesn’t know.

Oh, and she loves fancy dinners and long walks on the beach.

Too Much To Do

Well, I didn’t get much accomplished again today. We were too busy.

This morning AJ and I met with one of his coworkers about setting up a trust. They offer the service at a deep discount and we figured what the hell. It sucks to discuss what happens if AJ dies, but we had already talked about all of this before I had Liam, so it wasn’t anything new to either of us. I just hope we don’t need it for a long, long time.

Since I was downtown and Grandma had the kids, I decided I’d stop in and look at some glasses when we were done.

AJ had other plans.

He wanted to go to lunch. I wasn’t sure how that was going to work with picking out glasses and getting back to the children when I said I would, but he assured me that his mom already knew we were going to lunch, so we were able to do both.

I got two new pairs of glasses. I was wiggly with glee at lunch. First, we were by ourselves, and second, the glasses and the location of lunch reminded me of when I was young and hip. For a moment I actually believed that I still MIGHT be hip. But then I realized that I don’t own a pair of those fancy culot pants that people wear with tall boots.

Anyway, it was short-lived and I ate my lunch in about five minutes because that’s what I’m used to, but I enjoyed every moment of it.

I was late picking up the kids because I missed my exit while I was talking to Jenni about 2,000 different things. L was fine, but Miss E wasn’t taking the bottle, so she was hungry and ready for me to be there. I got her to take the bottle when we got home, but it required some very serious attention.

She has to be facing outward, sitting up a bit and I have to stand and bounce her while “shushing” her to get her calm enough to start eating. And the milk has to be really warm.

She’s so weird.

Both kids took good naps today, and I managed to bake a few cookies for some of Aaron’s coworkers.

Then we had to get ready to go to George’s second birthday party. L had fun. He got to help George, who doesn’t like to get dirty, eat his cake.

L had no problem eating the edges of icing off of the top and the bottom of the cake.

George finally got involved after Jamie gave him a fork.

Then they all figured out that forks = bigger bites and they went to town.

Aaron also attended the festivities.

He was thrilled with the theme.

We headed out shortly after G-man opened his gifts. L was quite helpful in that arena as well. Maybe he’ll want to open some of his xmas gifts sometime soon.

Kiddos went to bed later than normal and I tried to get the mess separated into piles by where it needs to go. It looks a little better.

Now, if I could just get the damn dryer to cooperate, I’d work on the laundry.

Guh.

I looks like I didn’t do anything all day.

And I had a whole post written about all of the things I did do and I just deleted it because I’m dumb.

Long story short, I tried to get the toys organized and sorted and pay bills and look for a replacement for the monkey jeep on our Exersaucer Mega.

I am neglecting the laundry and wishing that I could blink or wiggle my nose and have the house sparkling without lifting a finger.

Our house looks like a toy minefield.

I got to blog this evening and for that I am grateful.I’m still way behind, but am finally catching up. I have posts and pics up from Dec 16th on if anyone is interested. I won’t be hurt if you aren’t, but some of the pics are worth a quick look.

Oh, three great things I want to remember about today:

  • Liam was the sweetest he’s been in quite some time. Every time he started to get crazy, I fed him and it seemed to keep him sated. I just wanted to hug and kiss him incessantly.
  • Both kids napped well and I got a few minutes of peace to get a few items taken care of while they were both asleep.
  • I can eat a LOT of things I couldn’t before. E’s digestive system is finally adjusting!

“I never thought I could hate Christmas.”

Well, it’s Christmas, but it really doesn’t feel any different than any other day to us, aside from being exhausted from travel and the holidays in general.

It’s been a little rough the past few days and although Aaron muttered the title of this post early this morning, it actually turned out to be a decent day.

We decided not to open all of the gifts since the only ones we had were for the kids and L was completely uninterested.

So, instead of getting up and having a tear-open-the-gifts morning, Aaron made blueberry pancakes.

We ended up opening stockings around noon and L opened one gift. He was absolutely ecstatic when he realized what it was. I wish we had it on video.

He got through the paper and could see in the box. He cried, “It’s a CAARR!” and tore through the rest of the paper faster than I’ve seen him do anything without gently being prodded with a hot, metal cattle brand.

(I had pictures, but I’ve either lost them or deleted them, and frankly I don’t even care.)

L was clearly tired - even after the lazy morning - as he took a four-hour nap this afternoon, making us late for our FINAL xmas gathering of the season at Brad and June’s.

But we finally made it and he was in a great mood. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the additional gifts (cars, of course) that he got over there.

They’ve gotten so much stuff from so many different people that I don’t think I can keep up with the thank-yous.

But, with all of this new stuff to play with (He has enough new cars alone to keep him occupied for a year.), Liam doesn’t need our gifts, so we’re just going to dole them out over the next few months. That way when February rolls around and he’s bored, I’ll just whip out one of his unopened gifts and he will get a new toy for no good reason.  I hope he doesn’t notice it’s wrapped in xmas paper.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

I’m glad December only comes once a year.
