Life (In London), Medicated

Snow Day

Filed under: Aaron, Elena, Food, Liam, Mommyhood, NaBloPoMo, Suburbia — Heidi at 9:58 pm on Thursday, November 30, 2006

School was canceled this morning when we got up because the roads were crappy, and AJ decided to work from home. It was quite a scam considering that we didn’t get nearly the amount of ice they predicted. (Most of the schools canceled last night.)

But I was glad someone around here got to take advantage of it.

The only difference I noticed was that KM was canceled, so we were housebound. I’m sure it was just another day for E, and if L realized anything was amiss, it didn’t stop him from his usual routine of screaming.

It did, however, help significantly with his house training. He ran around nekkid from the waist down most of the day and went on his potty chair three times on his own. He was quite proud of himself and walked around saying, “He has to go poddy on his poddy.”

He was also very affectionate toward E. This has happened over the last week or so. I guess he’s figured out that she’s not going back, so he’s making the best of it.

This morning he climbed up next to her and covered them both up so that they’d could “get cozy.”

Then he helped her in the jumper by bouncing her (gently, actually) and swinging her. (I put a stop to that.)

(Doesn’t he look awesome without pants in those super long socks?)

And I did cringe as he sat down bare bottom in the Bumbo, but he was having such a great time and he wasn’t screaming, so I let him.

E was in a happy mood.

and she was quite chatty as well: Elena.wav

I took a break when L took a nap and mixed up sugar cookies to bake in the near future.

Anyway, this is the amount of snow we had before we went to bed. Doesn’t look like much, but it’s supposed to continue to come down overnight. Thry’re saying 5-8 inches.IMG_3259.jpg

Most of the schools have already canceled for tomorrow, so we probably won’t get any more and the districts will all be kicking themselves.

We’ll see.

New pics of E

See them here.

Life is boring, but we’re supposed to get snow.

It’s been kind of a lame day.

I did some stuff around the house and went to the doctor this morning. I haven’t had a full-on physical since before Liam was born, so it was about time.

The NP seemed a little weirded out by the “All Rice, All the Time” diet, so she decided that we should do a complete blood count, whatever that means. Fortunately, I was going to have them stick me anyway to check my cholesterol and thyroid levels. Otherwise I would have told them no.

I just don’t like having blood drawn - and I even have easy veins. It just makes my stomach turn.

However, I have no qualms about watching someone else’s surgery. I would have loved to be in the room when AJ had his “procedure.” And today he had a cyst cut out of his back. I SO wanted to see the process. I asked if I could see it when he got home, but I have to wait until tomorrow morning when I have to change his bandage. Ok…that part is gross.

To appease me, he took a picture of the cyst once it was out of him. It was quite large. Unfortunately I can’t show it to you here. It’s on his phone.

Anyway, Grandma kept the kids so I could go to the Dr, but she had to come to our house since E was still asleep at 8.45.

Who is this child?

I should also mention that L slept in as well…until 6.30.

E was unhappy the whole time I was gone. She was starving and wouldn’t take the bottle.

This makes my nipples hurt.

The child must. take. a. bottle.

However, she was pleased when I got home and she calmed right down as soon as she saw me lift my shirt.

Anyway, Tuesday is my normal day to run errands, so after I nursed E, I took L to Gma’s so that E and I could get some stuff done. I know Gma would love to keep both of them, but it’s L’s time with Gma and Gpa - WITHOUT Elena - and he looks forward to it. We’ll just have to figure out something else for E.

While we were out, I managed to get a new passport photo taken, thank goodness.

It is SO much better than the last one where I looked like a convict.

After I picked him up at noon, we came home and L helped E make her first phone call. He is an expert. The kid calls Gabe, Julianne, and Grandpa B. every day, at least five times each.

And he spent quite a lot of time sitting (but not doing anything) on his potty.

I changed the sheets during E’s short nap - she hardly slept, and she was STARVING the whole day - and took a look at our mattress. We have indentations on the sides where we sleep from the six months where Phil joined us in the middle. You can kind of tell if you look at the shadows on each side toward the top.

I’m kind of pissed because it wasn’t a cheap mattress. However, I’ve started sleeping in the middle in an attempt to make it sink, but I think it’s going to be a while before we see any progress.

Anyway, let me circle back to the title.

The whole day was gray and rainy and it looked like it should be cold. I knew what the weather was supposed to be like, but it looked colder than it said it was supposed to be so I wore jeans, a tee, and a hoodie.

Damn, I was hot. I should have worn capris. It was stuffy out there!

But tomorrow should be interesting…

Winter storm watch remains in effect from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night.

A strong cold front is forecast to move through Wednesday morning, causing temperatures to drop into the upper 20s to lower 30s by later in the afternoon. Rain may change to light freezing rain or freezing drizzle, possibly mixed with sleet behind the front during the afternoon. This may lead to light ice accumulations by the evening hours.

A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and statements

Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah, I say! I know the ice is hard on the trees, travelers, etc., but it’s so beautiful.

I’ll certainly post pics if the warning comes to fruition. However, I’m certain that it will either be hardly anything or 10 times worse than they say.

The weather people are never right. How do they keep their jobs?

Winter Storm Warning

Well the weatherpeople were all wrong again.  We didn’t get snow, but we did get ice.

Jen, Jules, and Ethan came over this morning and stayed until the storm got started, around two.  It didn’t really take them longer than normal to get home, but by four there were problems.

It took AJ 1.5 hours to get home from work.

Our power was out for about an hour.

L adored the candles, but I was a little concerned about how we were going to keep warm.

When AJ got here, he suggested starting the GAS fireplace.

I am so dumb sometimes.

I was devising ways to use our body heat for the six of us to stay warm in one bed when the electricity came back on.
IMG_3232.jpg

As soon as I set the clocks in the kitchen, it went off again for a few seconds.

Of course.

As far as the day goes otherwise

  • Jules and L were in time out at the same time for not sharing.
  • L’s new favorite thing to scream when he’s in time out is “WAANT TO CALM DOOWWN.”
  • E has a bit of a fever.
  • I am tired because I stay up too late.
  • Today is my mama’s birthday.  She’s 57, which kind of freaks me out.  I’ve never thought of someone in their 50s as being old, but at 60 it seems sort of undeniable.  Guh.
  • The fact that my mom is 57 means that I am getting old. Ugh.
