Life (In London), Medicated

Halloween

L had to get a shot today and he wanted to wear his costume to the doctor. I let him. Actually, I’d let him any day of the year. What does it hurt?

I was sure that some other kids would be Halloweened out, but no one was.  And really, it just made us look super cool.
Jeanne kept E for the dr. appt and then I switched her and brought E home so that I could meet with Alli to talk about some artwork she’s going to do for the kids’ rooms. (Aaron’s parents are giving the kids these paintings.)

I haven’t had adult contact in a quiet house in so long. I made her stay and drink coffee with me after she checked out the rooms.

We’re thinking an abstract flower for E’s room and something abstract using squares and lines for L’s room.

We’re doing this rather than kid-oriented art because we want them to be ageless so that they can have them later in life if they want.

As far as the evening went, everyone wore their Halloween best.

Gabe, Jen and Elias came over to go Trick or Treating with Liam and Aaron. This is the only picture I was able to get of either of them before they took off down the street.

They did great for the first house and then L kept saying he wanted to go home. AJ came back and got them both gloves and it was smooth sailing from then on.

I stayed home and handed out candy.  Evidently I was stingy.  One of the kids in the first group walked away saying, “I didn’t get very much, did you?”

Dude, I was giving out like three pieces per person.

The boys and Jen eventually made their way back and Aaron picked out the good candy from L’s booty.

He manned the door the rest of the evening and I ate a bunch of crap that I’ll pay for tomorrow…and the next day…and the next.

We saw some good costumes, but I’d have to say that my favorite was the girl dressed as an iPod.

I’m definitely a fan of originality.

We turned off the lights around 8.30 and only had a small ziplock bag of candy left.

See, I couldn’t have been stingy.

And so it begins.

I’m signed on with about 8 million other bloggers for NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month).

Simply stated, it means that I will post every day in November.  I try to do this anyway, but I’m hoping to use this opportunity to write some meaningful posts, in addition to the day-to-day crap that I find necessary to chronicle for my own sake.  (You’re all so nice to muddle through it even though it means nothing to you.)
I have amassed a venti list of topics over the past two and a half years.  I think it’s about time I address a few of them.

Some will be hard for me to write.  Others will be things I think are funny or interesting.  Regardless, it’s not going to be easy for me since Nov-Feb is my most difficult time of the year, but perhaps it will motivate me to do something other than eat.
See you tomorrow.

Another excuse to wear their costumes.

We hosted a Halloween party for a few kiddos today. It was CRA-ZY.

We decorated cookies, drew on pumpkins, and played with foamies.

I’m pretty sure that everyone had a good time. The sugar high for the kids was SA-WEET. In addition to squealing, they were running around yelling “Boo-ah.” Nobody was really sure why.

This craziness in conjunction with a cookie, M&Ms, candy corn, and chocolate chips - sans breakfast and lunch - was the culprit for Liam only sleeping 30 minutes this afternoon.

And for the first time EVER, he got out of his bed and came out of his room. (I blame this on candy as well.) When I found him, he was laying at the top of the stairs on Milo and Taggie saying, “Mama will come get you.” He was so sweet.

I tried to put him back to bed, but it wasn’t in the stars. However, I was high on candy corn, so it didn’t really matter.

We spent the afternoon rolling cars.

Pics from the party…

It’s so much more fun to pay bills with happy checks.

Certainly, we do most of our bill paying online. But we do have the occasional need for the handwritten check.

It’s been interesting the past 3.5 years because we’ve still been using our checks with our old address. I was writing in all of the new information every time and it was just getting annoying.

However, we have finally managed to dwindle the old supply down to one book. Once I realized that, I got right on it. Then I waited eagerly for them to arrive.

I’m pleased to say that we got these in the mail this week. And I’m anything but “standard,” so I went with the Retro font. Sassy checks need sassy type.

I like them so much that I might just stop using my debit card.

Updated to add:

OMG.  I just looked at our old checks and they still have my maiden name on them.  We’ve been married more than FIVE years!

I slept in; how could it NOT be a good day?

  • AJ got up with L this morning and I managed to nurse E and get her to go back to sleep until almost 9.
  • I stayed in my jammies until 4.
  • Liam had a better-than-usual day, which made up for E’s not-so-great day.  (She doesn’t do cherry medication well.)
  • AJ went to the grocery store for me. (E takes grape better.)
  • I baked an apple pie that AJ’s grandma made for us. (L walked around asking about the pie until he went to bed.)
  • We had Jill and Will, whom we haven’t seen in AGES, over to watch a movie and eat apple pie.
  • We watched Run, Lola, Run. I hadn’t seen it in ages either, so it was an appropriate choice for the evening.
  • And, there was the coffee and ice cream that went perfectly with the apple pie.
