Heidi Chronicles

Life, Unsweetened

I took the camera, but took no pictures.

It was a rather busy day here in the heidichronicles household.

First of all, L was up at 6.30 even though he didn’t go to bed until 10 last night. I couldn’t believe it. THEN, he only slept for an hour and 15 minutes this afternoon. These kinds of days exhaust me.

Or maybe it had something to do with me working in the lawn for three hours. I got a little bit of the landscaping cleaned up and managed to pull out some more of pesky spreading tree that we have in one of the flower beds. It drives me crazy. I got good and sweaty out there, but didn’t do anything strenuous, in case you were wondering.

L helped me a bit with his wheelbarrow, watering can, bucket, and assorted gardening tools. AJ got some really good shots of him working, but the memory card wasn’t in the camera, so they were only imaginary pictures. What a bummer. You should see him out there tooling around behind the wheelbarrow. He got dirty and had a great time – right up until he dumped my water and started eating ice off of the dirt. Then he had to go inside with AJ.

After working in the lawn, I was FREAKING exhausted and A and I watched Walk the Line. Plot – old news. Acting – impressive.

Then, we got ready to go to India Fest 2006 at Neal and Ang’s house. Ang and Neha had been working for four hours to make some tasty Indian vittles. I was all ready to take some pics of them working and of all the yummy food, but then I had to cut my strawberries for dessert and I ended up assisting in the chopping of items for dinner. (I have a confession. I love to chop. I like to make things as similar in size as possible. There’s just something soothing about chopping. Maybe it’s the vision of cutting out the hearts of my enemies and mincing them into teeny tiny pieces. Maybe it’s the control I have over the jalapeno. I really don’t know…but I like to chop.)

I don’t know what all we had, or how to spell it, but it was damn good. Maybe Ang will enlighten us in the comments.

So, pretty much everyone but Aaron enjoyed the Fest-food. (He ate pizza…and breadsticks…and strawberry shortcake.) I’m not much for eating outside, but if there was a perfect day for it, this was it. We all sat on the deck and took turns trying to keep Liam from going down the stairs into the grass.

I guess I should say that L was hip on the strawberry shortcake as well. He wasn’t very hungry, but he enjoyed the stairs on the back deck and also running around in N&A’s backyard with Marley, their Westie.

In addition to the strawberry shortcake, I also managed to unload a few bright blue peeps and marshmallow eggs onto unsuspecting Indians. It was a good dessert night as well.

Hats off to Ang – the Indianest white girl I know. Dinner was delicious and company complemented nicely.

If only I had pictures.

Ha! Cutting out the hearts of your enemies! I hate chopping so so so so much, but using this particular visualization technique might help . . .

[...] So here in lies my eating dilemma. I am not longer eating meat but I don't like much else. So I decided that before I turn into a loaf of bread I would re-try some things. I started slowly. I remembered a pizza I had once that had green peppers on it. I had taken them off but it had left a flavor that I actually enjoyed. Shane and I are cooking a lot more at home and one of the items we make is homemade pizza. I decided I would try green peppers again. So – I got a pepper (green, no red ones) and diced it up. And that is how I have to eat them – very small. (I think I could learn something from Heidi) I don't want to bite into a strip of a green pepper or those circle things some places make. I want the pieces to be small enough that when I take a bite, I am not tearing into anything, they just kind of "sneak" in there. I am not even kidding – I have asked a pizza place before how they cut their peppers before I ordered. Eating with me is not fun folks – as my husband! But I like the "little peppers." They deliver a flavor as well as give me some sort of nutrition. Which I am fully aware that I am lacking. I am actually shocked I am not suffering from scurvy! Thank God for multi-vitamins! [...]
