Life (In London), Medicated

DDOL (and other goings on): New ankle weights.

It was a bit of a crazy day. I was worn out thanks to AxLita and Liam is just being a little pistol. He’s begun hanging on my leg when I’m working in the kitchen. He sort of grabs on to one side of me and he won’t let go. We shuffle around while he whines. (I’m hoping that it will take care of some of the cellulite that has appeared in the past year.)

I also had Jules here while Jen went to her dr. appt. She’s due in early Feb. and could pop that baby out anytime now! It seems like we just found out she was pregnant. They stayed through the afternoon and, because Jen is like my sister, I did manage to get the kitchen cleaned up and keep the laundry going. She got some bills paid and some packages wrapped for mailing as well. Ah, this exciting life I lead.

Aaron was also home from work and was putting out fires - literally and figuratively - this morning. He had to go over to his mother’s house after her housecleaner showed up at our house concerned about the thick black smoke emanating from their basement. She came over here (they live three blocks away as the crow flies) instead of calling the police because she knew it would be faster. She rocks. A went over there with her and determined that it was a self-cleaning oven gone badly. (As you know, A is good with the ovens.) He did some work from home and then left to go shopping and to a work party for everyone who is not a partner. He was gone the better part of the afternoon.

A pal of mine from ye olde college days was in town and she came to visit this evening. When she arrived, A and I were in the middle of making pasta for the first time EVER. She was quite patient with us as our attempted Italian-ness became the main topic of conversation. Regardless, it’s always good to see olde friends. You know, the kind you don’t have to worry about totally catching up with because even though you don’t talk that often, when you do talk, you really talk.

At any rate, after Lori left, the pasta took on a life of its own. We really did great with the pasta machine. We had that part down. Unfortunately, we placed the pasta too close together when we laid it out to dry and the pieces stuck to one another. So, our solution - instead of making new pasta - was to toss a little water on the partially dry, stuck together pasta and try to redo it. It worked eventually, but I strongly believe FSM was looking out for its own kind. (While FSM is generally considered to be enriched white flour spaghetti, it does not discriminate based on the color or type of pasta. This pasta in particular, was one lucky batch of whole wheat fettuccine.)

I don’t know how it will taste since we overworked the glutens, but we did accomplish our goal. We used the pasta machine that Neal and Ang got us as a wedding shower gift back in 2000. I was glad we got it in in ‘05.

One time every five years sounds so much better than once every six.

DDOL: Balancing act.

I turned around for a moment while L was eating and when I turned back, he was placing a grean bean next to the bread that he had placed meaningfully on his head.

I also discovered bread down the back of his shirt later on when he was pulling at the collar.

Lesson learned: stale bread is itchy.

Trivial Pursuit: Jesper Parnevik

Filed under: Family — Heidi at 11:05 pm on Thursday, December 29, 2005

Had Aaron’s sis and cousins (and spouses, where applicable) over for a Trivial Pursuit tournament.

First round, the teams shaped up as such.

We played Mennonite stylee with girls against girls

and boys against boys.

The competition between the girls was a tad bit different than between the boys. I wasn’t actually playing, so I was fortunate to hear all of the banter.

The girls were all trying to help one another and laughing. I was a floater so I was “helping” both teams. However, the guys were engaged in a serious competitive sport. (Aaron and Elias do not take TP lightly.) I believe that A and E got something like five pie pieces in one turn. (A was proud because he answered the sports question correctly.) Even Scott and Travis swore they weren’t cheating. (Wait - I don’t think either of those two swears.)

Elias and Aaron won for the boys and Rachel and Chels won for the girls. However, because Aaron and Elias creamed Travis and Scott, R and C decided that we’d all play against them. Even with Travis, Scott, Nicole, and Jen on their team (and an occasional phone-a-friend), R and C still lost. I don’t know if it was because of Elias’ rolling skills, Aaron’s answers (”Yeah…I know that Brandy…does shit. With music.”), or the fact that R thought Bob Dylan was too skinny to be a boxer. Regardless, here’s Elias winning with a sports question.

If you haven’t already figured out, for the majority of the players, the sports questions are the bane of our existence, so the fact that Elias won on sports gave him even more to puff his chest and preen his feathers about.

The question involved a Swedish golfer whose father did something that doesn’t really matter because I can’t remember at the moment. However, it sparked a big discussion after the fact that his nanny married Tiger Woods.

Small world, that Sweden.

DDO?: On my ass, on the sofa.

This afternoon I could. not. move. I was so tired. I sat on the sofa for an hour and AJ went to the grocery store for me.

He got me Diet Sprite. It was heavenly.

He’s a good man, that husband o’ mine.

DDOL: Aaron may loathe the placement of the chair, but everyone else seems to enjoy it.

They’re such pals.
