DDOL: The Transfer

Filed under: Liam — Heidi at 4:37 pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2005

Well, I’ve discovered over the last few times of trying to do “The Transfer” (from the car to the bed) that it only works if L has been asleep in the car for fewer than 15 minutes.

When it works, he’s like a drunken little man with his head all wobbly. His eyes are little slits and they don’t focus. He just lies his head down on my shoulder as a very drunk man would at the bar just before last call. And when I put him in bed, he grabs Milo and Taggy and nearly smothers himself with the joy of having found them. Then he goes directly to sleep.

I know it’s not going to work when he opens his eyes and looks at me and makes noise when I get him out of the car seat. This is NOT a good sign. And this is what happened today. We were on our way home from Jen and Jules’ and he was out cold. I pull in the driveway and he’s wide awake. I was SO looking forward to that nap.

They never sleep when you really want them to.
